Please excuse me I’m about to go on a rant here!!!

I have just about had enough of all the junk I get in my email or read on the web these days that talks about “How to make a gazillion dollars working just 3 minutes a day”

It is all complete and utter BS. These so called ‘gurus’ throw out all these amazing claims and tell ‘what’ to do but NEVER show you HOW to do it.

They tell you that you need to make a Big Mac but NEVER give you the secret sauce. It makes my blood boil.

Also most of these guys have never sold a single thing outside the internet marketing world.

I am proud to say I have made money selling all sorts of public domain stuff as diverse as

• tatting (yes it’s real – look it up!)
• t-shirts,
• pictures
• CD’s,
• DVD’s
• and a whole lot more…

 Yes I also publish IM stuff as well, but I feel proud doing it as I know I walk-the-walk as well as talk-the-talk.

Anyway glad to get that off my chest!

Now the question of Copyright will come up and for MOST of them they state “No Known Copyright Restrictions” – thats just a CYA comment in my humble opinion (as always if you are in any doubt have a professional check this out for you)

I have to tell you that I just love all types of public domain material. I have used  books, magazines, pictures, movies and audio to make money. They are all great!

One of my absolute favorite types though is old advertising material. I personally love old ads – and guess what there are millions of people just like me who are willing to pay good money for the right material.

I’m going to share now a great source of public domain ad’s. Now everything on this site isn’t public domain – but a good amount is. I wonder if you can find a few ways to amke money with this – I know I can!!!

It just never ceases to amaze me in the different ways people are making money with Public Domain works.

I’d like to introduce you to one of my favorite sites: http://www.shorpy.com – check it out.

This site is full of Public Domain vintage images. They are mostly taken from the Library of Congress (www.loc.gov) – which, incidentally is a an AMAZING source of Public Domain material.

A couple of things to note.

Firstly, this site is Pagerank of 6 – yes a freakin 6. For anybody who is unaware of Pagerank take a look at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank

But let me tell you that is no easy feat and it is done for the most part with just Public Domain material. I suspect the flood of comments he gets also help as well!!!

Secondly he has some ad’s on his site to monetize the traffic. Also he sells copies of the prints.

Finally he links to some other sites (all selling Public Domain material) – they are very good and all concentrate in the graphic area:

He (or she!) has spent a lot of time collecting and cleaning up these images but as you can see they are superb – just a great example.

For many people January 1st will be a day of nursing hangovers and breaking their new year resolutions! For others it will be a day of unbelievable new riches becoming available!

Some of you are asking “What are you talking about Simon?” Well in many countries (sadly not the USA) works fall into the public domain after a certain period after the death of the author/creator – frequently 50 or 70 years. So come Jan 1st 2010 a whole host of works will become available from creators who passed in 1939 and 1959.

Obviously this is a MASSIVE list and this year includes some notable names including Sigmund Freud and William Butler Yeats. (remember it depends on where you live – check your local copyright laws)

Sadly here in the USA the next batch of public domain material will be in 2019, but that doesn’t take away from the  outrageously MASSIVE wealth of FREE information, books, pamplets, art, music etc that is available to you.
